UPSC Prelims Syllabus For General Studies and Aptitude Test:
This Article discusses the UPSC Prelims Syllabus (Civil Services Preliminary Exam syllabus) which is followed at present. The UPSC Preliminary exam which is popularly known as UPSC CSAT has two papers. Paper 1 is the General Studies and Paper 2 is the Aptitude test. Both are of 200 marks. Both papers are conducted on the same day in two shifts.
The total marks for the UPSC Prelims is 400 marks. The cut-off for UPSC Prelims generally varies between 200-250 marks (based on last few years trends). Below is given the UPSC Prelims Syllabus for both General Studies (Paper 1) and Aptitude Test (Paper 2) as given in the current Civil Services exam notification. UPSC Prelims Syllabus for General Studies (Paper 1):
Duration of Exam: 2 Hrs.
Total Marks: 200
Syllabus:
- Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance -Constitution, Political System,Panchayati Raj, Public Policy,Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives,etc.
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialisation.
- General Science.
UPSC Prelims Syllabus for Aptitude Test / CSAT (Paper 2):
Duration of Exam: 2 Hrs.
Total Marks: 200
Syllabus:
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision-making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude,etc.) (Class X level)
- Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)
- English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
