BJP MLA Anil Sharma who had to quit the State Cabinet after he refused to campaign against his son in the 2019 Lok Sabha election has been expelled from the party. The decision was on the cards for quite some time as a section of local BJP leaders in the state demanded action against Anil Sharma for anti-party activities. Anil Sharma also campaigned for his son Aashray Sharma who was fielded from Mandi constituency by the Congress party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and since then used every occasion to criticize the BJP government.

Anil sharma a sitting MLA form Mandi in the 13th Legislative Assembly is the son of Sh. Sukh Ram ( Ex Union and State Minister ). He has also been a Rajya Sabha Mp (1998-2004). He has held the portfolio of Minister of State for Youth Services, Sports and Forest and also Power Minister.
