The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on 27th August 2019 has announced that it will rename Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium as Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The renaming will take place on September 12. The function will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. On the same day, a stand will be named after India captain Virat Kohli as it was announced earlier.
During his tenure as DDCA president, Arun Jaitley had got developed the infrastructure and added modern facilities at the stadium, which included increasing its capacity to accommodate more fans and constructing world-class dressing rooms.
East Delhi BJP MP and former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has also requested Lt-Governor Anil Baijal to rename the Yamuna Sports Complex in East Delhi after former finance minister Arun Jaitley.
About Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium:
- The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium is a cricket ground located in New Delhi.
- The first cricket Test match at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium was played on 10 November 1948 when India took on the West Indies.
- Feroze Shah Kotla stadium is owned and operated by the DDCA (Delhi District Cricket Association).
- It was established in 1883 and is the second oldest international cricket stadium still functional in India, after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata .
- It has also been decided to name the home team’s dressing room after Raman Lamba and the opposition’s dressing room after Prakash Bhandari.
