P.V Sindhu has become the first Indian to win Badminton World Championships gold. P.V. Sindhu created history by defeating Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the final match of Badminton World Championships that was played on 25th August 2019.
P.V Sindhu won the finals by 21-7 21-7 and the match lasted just 38 minutes. This was Sindhu’s fifth World Championships medal. P V Sindhu is the only woman Singles player in the world to win 5 World Championships medal. The former Olympics and world champion Zhang Ning of China has won 4 medals.
Two years ago, Sindhu lost finals to Okuhara in an epic 110-minute final at Glasgow. Now, she has defeated the same opponent to win the Gold medal.
Other Achievements of P V Sindhu:
- Won an Olympic silver in the 2016 Rio Games. She is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal.
- a silver at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018
- an Asian Games silver at Jakarta and the BWF World Tour Finals last year.
- First Indian to have won the World Tour title defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the 2018 World Tour final.

The 2019 BWF World Championships was held from 19 to 25 August at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. India stood second in the medal tally with 2 medals whereas Japan stood first with 5 medals.
