The Union government has announced the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for the year 2018. This year National Selection Committee for the Tenzing Norgay Awards was constituted under the chairpersonship of Secretary (Youth Affairs). The Committee had experts from the field of adventure.

About Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards:
Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards are given every year. The awards aim to:
- recognize the achievements of persons in the fields of adventure\
- encourage young people to develop the spirit of endurance, risk–taking, cooperative teamwork and quick, ready and effective reflexes in challenging situations
- provide incentive to the young people for getting exposed to the adventure activities.
The Tenzing Norgay National Adventure awards are given in four categories: Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure and Life Time Achievement.

The awardees will receive their awards from the President of India along with other Sports Awardees at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 29th August, 2019. They will receive statuettes, certificates and award money of Rs. 5 lakh each.
About Tenzing Norgay:
- Tenzing Norgay, also referred to as Sherpa Tenzing, was a Nepali-Indian Sherpa mountaineer.
- He was born on 29 May 1914.
- He was one of the first two individuals known to reach the summit of Mount Everest. He accomplished this task with Edmund Hillary on 29 May 1953.
- In 1953, Nepalese King presented him with the Order of the Star of Nepal, 1st Class (Supradipta-Manyabara-Nepal-Tara).
- In 1959, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan award.
- In September 2013, the Government of Nepal proposed naming a 7,916-foot mountain in Nepal Tenzing Peak in Norgay’s honour.
- In July 2015, the highest-known, 3.4-kilometre-high (11,000 ft) mountain range on the dwarf planet Pluto was named Tenzing Montes.
- Time had named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
