The Himalayan Forest Research Institute has launched a week-long refresher training programme on “Conservation and development of medicinal plants and benefit of sharing with the local communities” for forest department officials in Shimla on 26th August 2019.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Wildlife Dr Savita inaugurated the programme. She said a majority of the world’s population depended on the plants for treatment of various kinds of diseases. Which was why there was an urgent need to develop and disseminate the scientific protocols for the sustainable harvesting strategy of the medicinal plant species. As per Dr. Savita, Cultivation practices of these plants were underway in some parts of the state.
About the Programme:
- The programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
- In the programme, the participants would be provided with knowledge with respect to identification of the medicinal plants.
- Also, information about the techniques of inter-cropping these plants with traditional agricultural and horticultural crops and processing and marketing methods will be imparted.
