Camping site owners of the Chandertal area is seeking the help of the district administration of Lahaul Spiti against the ban imposed by the Koksar panchayat. The Koksar panchayat has banned camps near the lake to save ecology and asked the owners to vacate the area immediately.
As per the camping site owners, they are operating camp business in an eco-friendly way. The licences were procured from the Forest Department to run it legally. They had constituted a “Save Chandertal Society”, which keeps regular cleaning of the lake area. The president of the society also rubbished the allegations of the panchayat that the drainage of kitchen waste is flowing into the lake from the camping sites as these are set up downstream the lake.
As per the President of the society, the members regularly clean the area and transport garbage to Manali for disposal. The toilet facility is available at the camping site and there is no question of open defecation and they do not allow any tourist to set up any temporary camp near the lake.
