    • European Union had  banned  import of Indian mangoes  after fruit flies and other quarantine pests were found in 207 consignments. 
  7. Haiti president announced formation of new government under Prime Minister Evans Paul.
  8. NASA has partnered with Auto-maker Nissan to Jointly Develop and Deploy Autonomous Drive Vehicles.

  13. Charlie Hebdo: A controversial magazine:
    • Masked gunmen on 7 January 2015 attacked its Paris office killing at least 12 people.  including the editor Charbonnier.
    • The magazine was in news after it published cartoons on Prophet Mohammad.
  14. Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha was appointed as 21st chief justice of Bangladesh . He will be the first non-Muslim to become the Chief Justice of Bangladesh.
  15. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic won the  Presidential elections of Croatia.She has become  the first female President of Croatia.
  16. Beji Caid Essebsi was sworn in as President of Tunisia.
  17. Jaffna-Kankasanthurai rail track repaired and restored by IRCON in North Sri Lanka was inaugurated.
